Dr. Stephan Wenger works as the CTO for a still stealthed startup in
the telecommunication industry. Until May 2009, he was active in
Nokia's Intellectual Property Rights department. Between 2004 and
2006, he was a Principal Scientist in the Nokia Research Center, and an
Adjunct Professor at the Tampere University of Technology,
Finland. His main research interests lie in the field of media
coding and transmission over digital links. Before joining Nokia,
he worked as a project manager at TELES AG, Germany, and technical
advisor and consultant for several companies including Polycom,
Siemens, Microsoft, and Intel. He has also helped start companies
in the field of multimedia coding, and served on the Board of Directors
of UB Video Inc. until its successful aquisition in 2006. Dr.
Wenger’s interests are both in protocol design and media coding for
multimedia systems. He has authored or co-authored over a hundred
journals and conference publications, standardization contributions,
Internet RFCs and book chapters. He has held several seminars, on
technical and marketing topics of Multimedia communication. He is
also very active in the standardization process for new Multimedia
technologies, especially in the IETF, and the ITU-T. Dr. Wenger
currently holds five international patents with several more pending.
He received the diploma and Dr.-Ing degrees in Computer Science from
Technische Universität Berlin, Germany, in 1989 and 1995
respectively.
